“Girl Be Heard has helped me develop as an artist and has given me a 3rd family. GBH is the safest and one of the only places I want to be.”
I am a 16-year-old who was raised on the streets of Jamaica, the Bronx, and Harlem, NY. I am the oldest of 7 children and of Puerto Rican and Jamaican decent. I have been a member of Girl Be Heard since June 2012. Before GBH, I was a woman’s activist and a survivor of sex trafficking. I have always been a writer, but the group has helped me develop as an artist. I’ve learned how to improve my acting and theatre skills and how to become comfortable with sharing my story on the stage. It’s really hard for me to trust people, especially because of the fact that I have been kidnapped, removed from my family, and placed in a foster home. Girl Be Heard has given me a family that has taught me to be more open mined and trust people again. GBH is now the safest and one of the only places I want to be.
