At Girl Be Heard our Artistic Department helps to develop Artist/Activists who write and perform socially conscious theater important to their communities and beyond.

Central to our work is the exploration of voice, movement, spoken word and song, to help build self-esteem and grow individual talents and to encourage leadership in their communities.

Girl Be Heard produces 5 shows a year, including our MainStage Show. All shows are developed and devised by our participants.

The MainStage Show happens every year and is unique because it is created by our Active Performers (participants that have completed one of the GBH programs and moved on to become paid performers).

Current program participants with the help of their Teaching Artists and the GBH Artistic Team showcase their work throughout the year. Four of our five produced shows are dedicated to our current program participants.

*Participants choose their own title for their show each year.

We also perform devised curated shows for schools, government and non-governmental organizations, businesses and special events.

Check out our Events Calendar for GBH upcoming performances.

GIRL BE HEARD’S 2018 MAINSTAGE SHOW:

“INDIVISIBLE: LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR WHO?”

Our democracy is in peril. Girl Be Heard’s 2018 mainstage show INDIVISIBLE examines the political state of our nation. Over the last year, the most vulnerable communities in the United States have been affected by and infected an epidemic of xenophobia, sexism, and racism. INDIVISIBLE asks the question: What can we do to create a nation that provides liberty and justice for all?

Girl Be Heard’s cast (ages 16 to 23) perform original work based on their own experiences living in America and offer insights and solutions to making the American dream a reality. After each performance, talkbacks were led by Girl Be Heard special advisors and social justice champions.
