Florence Hutner

Florence Hutner’s strong commitment to public service is reflected in both her thirty-year career with the City of New York and her work with community and nonprofit organizations. Her positions in City government have allowed her to help people facing difficult circumstances, not only in her current role but also in prior executive positions with the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence and the Departments of Correction and Probation. She also participated in relief efforts in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, and of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Florence’s volunteer work includes board service with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, a community music school where she served as board chair and secretary as well as chair of the governance committee. She has also held leadership positions on boards in her faith community and for an environmental organization, and she has engaged in direct service activities in New York City and in Haiti. Florence holds a JD from Columbia Law School, an MFA from NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, and an AB from Princeton University. She is a lifelong New Yorker and has lived in Brooklyn for the past thirty years.
