Introducing our program theme for this year… Organize!
This year we will agitate, educate, and organize!
OVERVIEW
The theme Organize! speaks directly to our ability to join together as a collective and as a powerful force advocating for progress and change. Our Organize! logo embodies this idea by standing in solidarity with folks all over the world who come together to form something more powerful than themselves alone.
INSPIRATION
Inspired by the fictional story of Sarafina (from the 1992 film), the theme Organize! embraces the idea of the power of youth protests and youth movements galvanizing governments and societies for change. In Sarafina, a young Black South African girl who has remained silent in the face of gross abuses by the apartheid government, finds her protest voice and takes to the streets to join the growing anti-apartheid movement.
IN ACTION
By learning from historical and current protest movements and our lived experiences, we will create art that advocates and calls people to action, including ourselves. We will use our art to organize and spur community-led change
