You make us great!

Did You Know?

New York City has the largest public school system in the United States, serving over 1 million children annually. The school system counts on organizations like Girl Be Heard to provide essential supplemental learning activities for students across the city, especially in schools lacking critical arts education. Each year, Girl Be Heard workshops reach hundreds of girls, young women, and gender expansive youth through our School Partnerships Programs and Community-Based Programs in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Manhattan.

GBH is working to build a powerful community of socially conscious artist-activists starting right here in New York. We do this by developing, celebrating, and amplifying young people's voices by engaging in storytelling, leadership building, and skill building. We highlight issues that affect our participants, their families, and their communities. Participants in our programs are poised to be leaders and changemakers in whatever career path they choose, whether on stage or in the Boardroom.

  • $50 pays for a participant to attend a Girl Be Heard workshop

  • $100 gives a participant a MetroCard to attend workshops for a semester

  • $250 covers emergency assistance (provided by a social worker)

  • $500 gives an artist a paycheck to write and perform in a mainstage show

  • $1,000 provides a performance space
