Bring Radical Hope Into 2022
In this edition, we are highlighting the various ways Girl Be Heard is celebrating the new year. From the return of the Girls Makes Movies program and the much anticipated Girl Be Heard Trinidad & Tobago Unplugged show named ‘Radical Hope’, join us as we bring radical joy and radical hope into 2022 as a conscious choice and act of courage.
COMPANY MEMBERS SPOTLIGHT:
Jamilah Rosemond
Jamilah Rosemond will be starring in the upcoming Netflix film, “Rustin”, alongside Coleman Domingo, Chris Rock, Audra MacDonald, Adrienne Warren, and more.
The film will be a biopic about civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, who fought for gay rights and helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, among many accomplishments.
“Rustin” is co-produced by Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Dustin Lance Black, and Bruce Cohen, and directed by George C. Wolfe.
Elizabeth Shvarts
Elizabeth Shvarts was nominated as the 2021-2022 NYC Youth Poet Laureate by Urban Word NYC. She was also recently accepted into Yale University.
“When I found out I was 2022 NYC Youth Poet Laureate I was overcome with sheer joy, gratitude, and awe, both at how far I’d come as an artist, and at being the first YPL from Staten Island, but in the promise of possibility.”
“As a first-generation Russian-Jewish American I’m also ecstatic to be in Yale, but the people I was with made the moment even more special.”
